Orange you glad?

I was struggling to get this to actually look like an orange. I'm not sure if I accomplished that, but Ethan really wanted to eat the orange, so I decided to call it done. :)

A gorgeous spring day

I spent most of the day outside today. There was an outdoor art show right up the street in my neighbohood. I ran into to friends, had lunch, and spent a couple hours sketching outside. There was really so much to see it was overwhelming, so I just decided to sketch this lamp post... I sketched it in pen, so no erasing allowed.. finished it with water color pencils and blended with the water brush.. Loads of imperfections, but I like the feeling of it.

I just started this online class called SketchBook Skool, and it is encouraging me to start sketching, drawing and journaling again. So after a long absence I will start posting to my poor neglected sketch blog again... :)

My First Zentangle or Lab #20 Out of Control

This started as a drawing lab to emulate the abstract artist Joan Miro, but along the way I discovered Zentangles and decided to try that technique on this sketch. About 4 hours later... this is what I ended up with. This could be addicting...

Drawing Lab #23

I am reading this book "Drawing Lab for Mixed Media Artists". This is one of the labs I completed, called " Your Inner Dr. Seuss". The objective was to emulate his style and make your own creation. It was a fun way to get me drawing again.

Vacation Sketching

I have the week off from work and am finally starting to wind down a bit. I promised myself (and others) I would do some drawing this week. It's been several months since I have drawn anything.. I guess I am an all-or-nothing kinda gal, so here goes....
Considering going on the sketching diet -- you have to draw your food before you can eat it.....
I really do love my iPod Video... I take it with me everywhere especially when exercising....
This is a little drink umbrella left over from Ethan's Birthday party....

So I went running tonight and my shins are killing me.. So while I was icing them down, I decided to draw my foot while I was waiting....

Hopefully more to come this week and/or I will get somewhat back into the drawing habit again...

A little sketching time.

Samantha and I had a 'girls day' while the guys were off camping yesterday. We went to lunch and did quite a bit of shopping. She and I both really enjoyed the 1 on 1 time together. Lots of fun!! Then she had a friend over for a sleep-over so I hung out it my room listening to Pandora radio and doing some light sketching... Above are the pants and shirt I bought from Old Navy...if you couldn't tell.. :-)
There is a picture of a girl on the tee shirt I just bought. I started sketching it and kind of embellished from there. This girl has a lot of hair!! I hope it doesnt make her neck tired. :-)

Portrait #15

I have been unmotivated to draw for a while now, as you can see, my last portrait post was in April! Being a holiday weekend hanging around the house with no excuses for why I couldn't draw I decided I had better at least try to draw something. So I pulled out my drawing stuff and my collection of pictures I have ripped out magazines, picked one at random, reminded myself it didn't matter if it turned out bad or not, and started to draw. Anyway, I had fun with it and was satisfied with the result.

The Sun is finally Shining!

I have been away a long time.. from drawing, that is. I have had a lot going on with work and family and just fell out of the habit of it. Honestly, I had no desire to draw. But I feel better when I do and worse when I don't and feeling worse takes away my desire to draw. Vicious cycle. Anyway, enough of that drama. Bleh!! Of course when I don't draw, I regress, but you have to just do it anyway. So this is a tiny little sketch I did at lunch time today. I parked my car under a tree at the lake I have parked near at lunch hundreds and hundreds of times over the last, dare i say, maybe 18 years. As they say, "the more things change the more they stay the same". Anyway, it has been raining here for a solid week. It was so depressing! Finally the skies have cleared to a beautiful sunny day. I liked the way the palm trees were reflected in the mirror surface of the windows on this building -- and did I mention it was sunny?! :-) Hopefully I will get back into the habit again.

Happy Easter. To see the photo I drew this from click here.

I was determined I was going to draw something this weekend and post, even with everything else I did this weekend. So I got this one in under the wire. I also cleaned out my daughters room, ripped out her carpet, helped paint the walls and move her new bed back in. And then there was all the work stuff as well. I need a vacation from my weekend! :-)

Portrait 08 with Video

My husband saw the demo by Danny Gregory and started wondering whether we could do a timelapse video too. So he set up the camera and I started drawing. Here is our first attempt. It is very short - I think we need to take more frames next time. The actual drawing time was about 45 minutes. I am pretty pleased with it for our first try. Let me know what you think.

Click here to see the video.

Portrait #07

I did some more portrait practice today. I went back to the exercise of starting the drawing upside down to get the features in place. Definitely showing more improvement on this. I did lay everything in in pencil first before commiting to ink.

Portrait #06

I took a little more time with this one and tried to get the features right in pencil before inking it in. This was inked with black Pigma Micron waterproof pen and painted with black water color. I was having a little trouble controlling the water-paint mixture to get the right shades of gray. Once it goes down too dark it is hard to correct. Something to practice more of. Oh, yeah, and I didn't do this one upside down. I think my brain just keeps working too hard trying to turn it right side up again it gives me problems. Or maybe I am just wimping out because that exercise is too far outside my comfort zone. Anyway, I am a bit happier with this one than the last.
